Featured Comic: Sherrod Small

Welcome to our new “Featured Comics” Area.  We are starting out with Sherrod Small, who has been often third mic on O&J.  We’d like to highlight not only popular favorites but comics who make great contributions to the unfiltered comedy community who may not have a website, or their info resides in multiple places.  We’d like to make it easy to find links on their podcasts, appearances and events. Comment below if you have any questions, comments or suggestions. Thanks!

You do what you gotta do

Hey folks, just thought I’d share a little non-comedy-life-can-suck-but-at-the-same-time-people-are-great stuff.  If you aren’t into this kinda sappy sad talk, feel free to skip!

Ah, hello blog, place to vent, I’ve had stuff weighing on my mind, and had to vent it somehow. The last couple of months have been interesting to say the least.  I learned a few things and thought to share with those that might find it mildly interesting.

Let’s see, I learned about depression, oh boy did I get a crash course about it.  I found out how prevalent it was among my friends and their circles.  I found that if you search the “local moms page” on facebook, you see tons of recommendations for obstetricians and gynecologists, and none for psychiatrists.  Mental health is still a pretty taboo topic even in 2015.

I learned about aspergers, zoloft, lexapro and seroquel.  One drug could mean a miracle to one child and the worst possible side effect to another. I learned about suicidal ideation and the difference between a passive thought vs. a “plan”.

I learned that a neurodevelopmental evaluation appointment can take months, even if your kid has a severe issue. Severe can mean many different things to many different people.  I learned that you can’t visit your child at a child-psych unit for more than an hour daily, sometimes 2 if it’s a special day.

I learned that people want to help you and there are many of them out there, you just have to ask.

Always be grateful, always. Even in the worst parts, you just have to keep going forward, and deal with whatever life is throwing at you, and you do your best.  You do what you gotta do.

My heart goes out to the supporters.  I’m sure many of you have been there for family and friends.  Thanks for standing for your loved one, and their family, their circle.  No matter how small the favor or words of encouragement may seem they mean A LOT.  I can’t tell you how many times I’ve just burst into tears because of the kindness of people.  Those are the best tears.  That’s what is right in the world.

Like Mr. Rogers said.

Experimenting with Comedy Content

Hi guys,

Just a quick note to my twitter friends out there.  Hope all is going well out there people.  I’ve been consumed lately with family stuff, and other side internet work that gives me some of that pocket money.  But my heart is always in comedy and wanted to see if we can actually come up with a regular stable piece of content on this site that would fill a void.

So here’s the idea.

Many of us listen to the same shows/podcasts and share a love of the same raw kind of humor that attracts us.

If you’ve tried to search for something to do on a weekend, google is a crazy place.  If you listen regularly to Opie & Jimmy or The Cumia Show or #Bennington, you’ll catch a comic that may be appearing in the NYC area, or you can hear them plug their shows. You can look at individual comedy clubs, sure, but that takes time too.  So yeah, information everywhere.

Our plan:

Identifying the NEW and REGULAR comics that appear on our favorite shows and podcasts.

Tracking their weekend events (via their website/manager emails)

POSTING them for each weekend coming up.

We LOVE our comics, and some of them are horrible frankly at marketing themselves.  Why not bring back “word-of-mouth” and provide a more organic way of finding where everyone is performing.  If a comedy club wants to sponsor us, great!  We’ll include them on a banner ad, or a featured spot.  But let’s keep the conversation going and promote our friends and new funny people.

Where can I find the latest comedy calendar?

You are an idiot your missing a great comic!

Oops, let us know in the comments below who we’ve missed.  If they aren’t well known, include which podcast/show they have appeared on.  So far we have:

[one_third]Amy Schumer
Big Jay Oakerson
Bill Burr
Bobby Kelly
Bonnie MacFarlane
Brian Regan
Colin Quinn
Dan Smith
Dan Soder
Dave Attell[/one_third][one_third]Esther Ku

This is a horrible idea. Where’d you go to school?

sad face. *charlie brown sad music* *thinks of how that education went to waste*

Why do you always make everything negative?

Insecurity, and self-doubt are my strengths. May need to google schizophrenia too. Also should stop talking to myself. Dammit!
